About Lucky's Legacy
Lucky’s Legacy (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Epping, NH) has been created by a group of dedicated volunteers, with over 25 years combined rescue experience. Dedicated to saving the horses whose lives were hanging in the balance from the closure of E.P.O.N.A. (Equine Protection of North America), Lucky’s Legacy continues to work towards preventing cruelty to horses in honor of Lucky.
Lucky was an inspiration to all who knew him. Found at the New Holland Auction, there was little doubt the fate this lethargic, broken down Amish carriage horse would have suffered. But there was something in his eyes which convinced his rescuers he had a greater purpose. No one could have predicted what that purpose would be. Lucky was one of three fortunate horses to be rescued from the Auction, in memorial to 26 Standardbred horses who had died in a horrible barn fire a few weeks prior. He lived up to his name and served us well - especially his best friend Iceman for whom he provided compassion, patience, and direction as his seeing-eye horse for over 8 years. Lucky lived up to his memorial name well and though March 3rd , 2010 was Lucky’s last day here on earth, his spirit lives on in everyone he touched. We feel it is fitting - in Lucky’s honor and in celebration of his life - to begin Lucky’s Legacy with the goal of saving those left behind from the Equine Protection of North America closure, including Lucky’s best friend Iceman, and the many others who will need our help in the future.
